The mission of the UCSF Genomic Medicine Initiative is to seamlessly transition the latest techniques from the UCSF research community into patient care, giving patients access to international experts in genomic medicine.
The Genomic Medicine Initiative is a UCSF-wide effort established by the Chancellor and Dean — an interdepartmental, interdisciplinary effort harnessing knowledge and experience across a large number of departments and research groups, which blends the providers and services of these departments into an efficient, knowledgeable team.

We are proud to announce the launch of the Genomic Medicine Initiative at UCSF, representing the nation’s first effort of its kind to provide the tools for physicians to make clinical decisions based on each patient’s genetics. This is a tremendous step towards making that genetic information useful for physicians and their patients, and a major advance in UCSF’s efforts toward making precision medicine a reality.
